THE HIGH PRIESTESS
-II-
Woman has been the object of adulation since the beginning of time. Before Jesus and Mohammed, before the Great Gautama, people gathered round the sacred fire to invoke her power. Now women speak of the intricacies of relationship, of children and the comforts of home, but of the One who has taught them to weave and to cast spells, they wisely say nothing.
Like mother before them, they are slow to declare their debt and acknowledge Her influence. It's not mother but the Seeress who comes to teach in the night. Having forsaken the warm bosom, they are ready to make use of her powers. She sits regally in front of two pillars across which hangs a veil separating us from the Unknown.
The High Priestess is dressed in long blue robes, her feet firmly planted on a large crescent moon. Its orb, pale yellow, is repeated in miniature form on her crown. Her beauty is striking and hypnotic. Deep blue eyes cast a penetrating gaze as she points to the scroll on her lap, "Come," she beckons. "Come and see. You cannot continue your life without this knowledge."
